Local DJS letting down local talent

RokiNitredy Studios CEO, Eddy Dhliwayo has blasted local DJs Bridget Gavanga and Munya Milimo for being the major culprits on Power FM who are contributing to the downfall of local music particularly Urban Grooves.

Eddy is furious at why the particular DJs are tagging music from his stable as substandard while they are playing worse off music from neighbouring countries. "People are not doing enough to promote local music and to make matters worse maDJ acho anoda kunyengererwa kuti varidze music yedu, iye Squilla aifunga kuti station yacho ndeyekumba kwavo and now akadzingwa and we still doing our thing" he was quoted.

In his frustration, Eddy has also lamented how the DJs love being associated with Zimbabweans out of the country, "Now they are playing music ya Buffalo Soldier because he is no longer around, when this guy was still in the heart of Mbare, they are the same people who shunned playing his music. "I just don’t understand how Zimbabweans hate on their own brothers". "I don’t care if the DJs know that I said it because that’s what’s going on, listen to Tembalani, everything he says about a local song is negative, veduwe how do you expect the industry to grow?" said the unhappy CEO.

I feel so ashamed when I hear how our DJs elevate mixes by other DJs as if they are not DJs themselves, not that one should blow their on horns but honestly I’m yet to hear of a show that Bridget performed anyway out of Zimbabwe and if any living thing paid to watch her on the decks said the furious Eddy who also implied this to local club DJs who keep bringing SA DJs to the Club but have never shared the stage with such DJs in their territory.

Russo producer at the stable could only say, I wish one day this industry will be treated professionally. H e also shared his side of fury with how promoters keep bringing washed out artists to Zimbabwe expecting to make money out of the gig starved Zimbabweans, "When they brought Joe Thomas we forgave them thinking they were just starting but how can one bring Tevin Campbell, Horace Brown and their grandfather Maxi Priest and expect people to attend the shows, wonder why these shows flopped disgracefully" said Russo as he also mentioned how he doesn’t understand why Fungisayi Zvakavapano had to share the stage with Joe Thomas.

The two however expressed gratitude to some DJs who are being real about promoting local music. Eddy said "This industry could grow to its potential if ever the DJs could follow the footsteps of Leander Kandiero, Posshy K, DJ Shorty, Hazvinei Sakarombe, Kudzi Mtulan & Marudza, Tendai Chakanyuka.
