The Groove Theory

Ready to lecture on the Groove

Is Urban Grooves dying? That is the question I've always wanted answered by the Groovers and when I almost concluded for myself, bang Cindy comes through with her theory. While most new-comers to the scene shun from being labeled Urban Grooves, Cindy is actually proud. "Urban Grooves is an umbrella term for anyone young doing anything, be it Jazz, Reggae, Kwaito you can name it. That is why Alexio after such a jazzy album is still tagged with it".

Her new album "The Groove Theory" is a masterpiece collection of well thought out lyrics and properly produced sound; it was worth the wait I should say.The album is so diverse that one would struggle to class it under any genre other than Urban Grooves. Cindy relates the diverse on the album to the theory she is lecturing about, "As much as I am comfortable with doing tracks in English, I am more comfortable getting in depth with my language and I am a proud Zimbabwean, one thing I should admit is I am well known for the tracks I did in shona and if that's how my fans want it, I m good with it that way" says Cindy as she explains more about the album. "You will find that this album took such a long time in the oven because I was working with it one day at a time, when inspiration strikes, I would get in the studio and do a track".

The long cook in the oven is however justified as the album features the greatest producers in the genre and for record sake I must admit that this is the first album in the history of the groove that has seen such an army of producers on a single project, (Take 5ive, TBA, Sani Makalima, Flash Gordon, Andrew Musonza better known as Dee of the now defunct 3rinity, FTR, AND Kinda Cute). Taking a look at her new video tor the single Nerudo, you will notice the art of was perfection and more. The video which was produced and directed by Tafadzwa of Taffrock Entertainment who is based in England and has also been credited for doing the temptations video by P Square is evidence of a revolution that could take effect in Zimbabwe should all artists approach music not just as a hobby but as a career.

Talking of careers, Cindy who's marital status is best described as single hinted that "Although music is my career, of late the remuneration has not been sufficient and because bills have to be paid, I had to find myself a job". She also explains that because of the music that she is doing, there are certain places she can not perform due to fan preference and that mean less income. The lady who is professionally known as Miss Munyavi, the Property Negotiator at Raydon Properties in Milton Park described her attitude as pressing forward and taking things seriously, "I don't have time to waste and because I don't waste other people's time, I expect mine too to be respected".
